So, a 'personal recommendations' type question of the sort I suspect many fedi people have Opinions on: remote backup services. Looking for something for multiple home machines (Linux and Windows), ideally with a solid service history and fairly configurable in what gets backed up and what doesn't.

Boosts appreciated!

@cocoa If you want extreme flexibility, I can recommend #RSyncNet https://rsync.net/

They operate what is essentially an online filesystem for you, available via multiple protocols including SSH.

All the rest is up to you, but that means it has very simple pricing, and it works with lots of different client applications.

@bignose @cocoa another vote for rsync.net. They're really simple: here's the service, standard protocols, use whether tool you wish. Los of examples, quick and knowledgeable support.

@cocoa For Windows there’s https://www.arqbackup.com (I‘m using it for Mac). I’ve got no idea for Linux, though.

@cocoa I use Duplicati on Linux – I don't have a Windows machine but it claims to support Windows as well.

The configurability is nice, including built-in support for a number of different off-site storage systems (like Backblaze's block storage, which is the one I use). And it's straightforward to pick-and-choose which directories are or are not part of a backup.
